See the part 1 one of this publication.

Today I tell you about two other Scandinavian awards - the Order of the Sword and the Order of the Polar Star.

The first (see the photo above) was established in 1528 by the Swedish king Gustav Vasa; its motto - PRO PATRIA – “For Fatherland". This order was given as a reward for military service only. Currently it has six degrees, the highest is Grand Cross (with 1788 it was given only to those who scored a major victory over the external enemy).

The Order of the Polar Star (see the photo below) was awarded to those who excelled in the field of science and culture; its motto - Nescit Ossasum/It knows no decline. The award was instituted by the Swedish King Fredrik I in 1748. the artist Nicholas Roerich, the first Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Sweden O.A.Grinevskiy, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Sweden in the Republic of Kazakhstan NT Izmailov and others were awarded this order.
